Ms. Downing is the founding author of the Miss Conduct column in the weekly Boston Globe Magazine.

Millie appeared monthly on NECN's Globe-at-Home, CBS4 and WBZ radio where she answered questions on a wide variety of popular topics.

As a nationally recognized expert in the field of business and social etiquette, Millie's advice is sought by national and local business leaders and she has appeared in many consumer publications coast to coast; profiled in Businessweek.com.; and is a regular contributor in Real Simple magazine.

Ms. Downing is also a model with the Candy Ford Group in Boston, MA

During her lifetime she has taken pride in her fabulous collection of books and research on etiquette and protocol, and has followed up by putting her experience and knowledge into practice by working with many individuals in private industry, non-profit, higher education, the restaurant industry as well as families.

Millie began at a young age performing in the arts of dance and music in her native Pennsylvania. She began her career after high school working at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.   After arriving in Massachusetts she worked as a paralegal and then went on to work in private industry in a variety of management positions. She has an additional background as a computer consultant with several years of fashion modeling experience on runways and in print.

Professional education and experience are in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, television, radio, photography, executive assistant to CEO, and advertising. Ms. Downing has a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing and communication from Stonehill College, holds a master certificate from ORACLE Corporation, and completed many courses in public speaking, media, the culinary arts, and fashion. Furthermore, she is a graduate and has been certified by The American School of Protocol, Inc., as an Etiquette Consultant.

Her professional background includes over fifteen years working as a project manager for multi-million dollar computer installations, and consulting in private industry. She has held management positions in marketing, communications, information technology and the restaurant industry.  As a corporate trainer she has developed curriculum, trained and taught for over fifteen years to those in business, non-profit, education, and specialized in providing exemplary customer service.  Ms. Downing also works as an image consultant. Custom programs and private classes are also available for businesses, education, non-profit, children, and families.

Ms. Downing is the proprietor of Polka Dots & Confetti, an emporium of sophisticated stationery, invitations and unique gifts.  Previously, Ms. Downing founded e2 Events Extraordinaire, an event management company, which produced many theme events throughout New England.

With her family and friends, she spends many days and evenings dining at various restaurants locally and world wide for the experience of fabulous food, beverage, service and ambiance. It is both a hobby and lifestyle she is passionate about.

A member of the National Speaker's Association, she is enthusiastic about offering information and education to those in our society who also believe that the promotion of courtesy, kindness, respect and integrity are integral to a lifetime of happiness and success.

Ms. Downing serves in a variety of roles in local performing arts venues and actively supports various groups.  Additionally, Millie also donates a portion of her time and expertise to non-profit organizations, charities, schools, local hospitals, town committees, and children’s groups around New England. 

She and her husband have two sons and live in Medfield, Massachusetts.
